Welcome to our Hot Dog Tricycle Hire – a unique and stylish way to serve the world famous hot dog!

Stepping back in time to the late 1800’s and the early 1900‘s, when this was the way to get your freshly cooked hot dog. With our British built Pashley Tricycle, still being made here in the UK since 1926 to this very day, and with the wonderful smell of food in the air, our uniformed server is ready to serve you. The biggest question you might have to ask yourself is “Which topping should I have on it?”! A traditional Hot Dog is a cooked sausage that consists of a combination of beef and pork, or all beef, which is cured, smoked and cooked. Nowadays, hot dogs can also be made from chicken and turkey, too, as well as there being a vegan range, so the hot dog has really moved with the times. Depending on where you are in the world, a hot dog is also known as a Wiener, a Red Hot, a Frankfurter, a Frank, a Winnie, and a Tube Steak, to name just a few. However you say it, hot dog cart hire, hot dog stand hire, or hot dog trike hire, the product is so well known all over the world because of the street vendors. It’s also really funny that we always think of the hot dog sausage having originated in the United States of America, but in fact it started it’s humble beginnings in Europe!

Hot Dogs History

The origins of the hot dog can be traced back as early as 700 BC with it’s appearance in Homer’s Odyssey, but some historians say the first sausage was not created until the 1st century AD, with ground meat and spices being stuffed into a casing. Over the course of the next few centuries, the sausage travelled across Europe finding it’s way to Germany, a country that then adopted the Wiener as it’s own. With both Frankfurt and Vienna claiming it’s creation, it quickly became a staple of the German diet, and it then made it’s way over to the USA with the German migrants. There are many legends of how the sausage became a hot dog. It is said that in 1880 a German peddler, in St. Louis in the USA, was selling his hot sausages to customers. He used to give the customer a pair of white gloves to wear whilst eating their hot sausage, so that it didn’t burn their fingers, but when they kept walking off with his gloves his profit margin fell. So his wife suggested that he should serve the sausage to them placed in a bread roll, and that is how the hot dog was born. This became known as the red hot, and was then popularized at sporting games and events, and the numbers being sold grew very large very quickly. In 1916 a Polish migrant, Nathan Handwerker, started a hot dog stand selling ‘Nathan’s Famous’, and by the 1920’s Nathan’s Famous was just that…..famous! His hot dogs became known nationwide, becoming widespread in American culture. In 1939 the hot dog was even on the menu at The White House! Each state in America seemed to have a different way of presenting their hot dog. There are countless different sauces and fillings: bacon, onions, chilli, cheese, mustard, and tomato ketchup, to name just a few.
